View the Three Arches Carved by Rough Waves into Towering Rock from the Observation Point
About this spot
One of the representative scenic spots of Goishi Beach, Anatooshi Islet (穴通磯) is a masterpiece of natural stone carving—a towering rock where rough waves have carved three arches over many ages. The rock arches floating in the blue sea are postcard-beautiful, and just a short walk along a pine forest pathway from the dedicated parking lot brings you to the observation point with the vista spread before your eyes. On calm days, small tour boats also operate through the "Anatooshi-sen" (穴通船), passing through the arches from the sea—a spectacular view from below the rocks. Of course, even viewing from the observation point elicits exclamations as white sea spray and rock formations weave together a magnificent landscape. Since the site is just a short drive from the Goishi Beach park area, experiencing both scenic spots in one morning is one of the unique pleasures of a driving tour.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from the Goishi Beach park area, with the observation point just minutes' walk from the dedicated parking lot. Don't approach the rocks too closely; elderly guests and children should hold hands and watch their footing carefully. The tour boat may suspend operations depending on weather and sea conditions, so check with the local tourist information center on the day if you wish to ride.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. The morning light creates striking shadows on the arch, making it perfect for photography.
