About this spot

A municipal park on the east side of Sendai Station with deep historical connections to the Date clan. According to legend, the fourth Edo-period feudal lord, Date Tsunamura, had weeping cherry trees and other varieties planted here and opened it to the public as an entertainment destination. Today it remains one of Sendai's premier cherry blossom viewing spots, with many cherry trees including prominent weeping varieties. The park features spacious lawns, fountains, and a play area for children, making it ideal for families. It's within walking distance of Anpanman Museum, so after playing indoors in the morning, you can bring a packed lunch or bread from the mall for a delightful outdoor meal. With plenty of shaded benches, parents can relax while watching their children play.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from Anpanman Museum, and also close to JR Seneki Line's Inuoka Station. Free admission and open entry. Bring a picnic mat for lawn seating; wet wipes are handy for cleaning hands after play. Since the park is large, check restroom locations in advance to avoid scrambling.

Best time to visit

Plan for 1 to 1.5 hours. Ideal timing for an outdoor lunch and post-meal playtime.
