A complex cultural facility in Ishinomaki that opened recently; its formal name is Ishinomaki Complex Cultural Facility. It inherits the functions of the city's Civic Hall and Cultural Center, both damaged in the disaster, and serves as Ishinomaki's new cultural hub with large and small performance halls and a museum. The design is by a team led by world-renowned architect Takasuke Fujimoto, featuring a pristine white exterior with house-shaped volumes stacked successively—like a town of interconnected roofs. In evening light, the white walls glow with soft color, creating an especially photogenic scene that enchants architecture and photography enthusiasts alike. The museum allows visitors to explore Ishinomaki's history and cultural treasures, including the Mouri Collection, offering a perfect conclusion to a day of enjoying manga and seafood while capturing the landscape symbolizing Ishinomaki's present.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Ishinomaki Minami-hama Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park. Free parking is available. Museum admission is paid, and it closes on Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday), so confirm opening dates and closing times if you plan to view exhibits. Exterior viewing and photography are free. The plaza and interior lounges are convenient for resting tired feet.
Best time to visit
Allow about 1 hour. The white exterior is most photogenic when touched by the sunset in the evening.
