Stroll the Harbor-View Deck and Select Souvenirs: Seafood and Mozuku Seaweed Sweets
About this spot
Serving as the passenger terminal of Shiogama Harbor, where municipal ferries to the Urato Islands and sightseeing boats heading toward Matsushima depart and arrive—the gateway to the sea. The building houses souvenir shops selling sweets made with Shiogama's mozuku seaweed and seafood products, as well as dining establishments and benches where you can take a moment while gazing at the sea, making it perfect for concluding your stroll. Step out onto the deck, and Shiogama Harbor spreads before you, allowing you to watch arriving and departing vessels and fishing boats up close. Children who love ships will be delighted; grandparents who are tired from walking can rest on benches—each family member can spend their time as they wish. Gently sway in the ocean breeze and slowly reflect on your day in the sushi town of Shiogama.
Tips
From Honshiogama Station, it's about a 10-minute walk; from Shiogama Suisan Nakaoroishi Market, it's about 5 minutes by car. Admission is free, and there are restrooms and dining establishments inside, making it convenient for rest. On windy days, the deck can be breezy, so a light jacket is comfortable.
Best time to visit
Allow 1 to 1.5 hours. During the bright afternoon hours, harbor views are excellent, and it's the perfect time to gather souvenirs before heading home.
