About this spot
This is a free-admission tourist farm spreading across approximately 100 hectares of pastureland in the foothills of the Zao mountain range. Beyond the pastoral landscape of grazing goats and sheep, the Zao mountain range towers majestically, and the moment you step out of the car, you're enveloped in the atmosphere of a highland resort. In the interaction plaza, you can get close to the animals for a supremely healing experience. In the experience center on the grounds, hands-on experiences are offered for making cheese, butter, and sausages (advance reservation required), packed with unique opportunities of a dairy farming region like Zao. Holding purchased cheese or drinkable yogurt from the gift shop in hand, spending time gazing into the distance while the highland breeze sweeps across the grassland provides just the right pleasant respite to cool down from the excitement of mountain driving.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from Toogatta Hot Spring; both admission and parking are free. Typically the facility is closed during winter months, so confirm operating periods beforehand. The pastureland has little shade, so a hat is comfortable to have. If you wish to do a hands-on experience, advance reservation is necessary. Don't forget to wash your hands after touching the animals.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. In the soft afternoon light, the pasture and Zao mountains photograph beautifully.
