Meet Real Akita Dogs at a Tourism Facility Modeled After the Historic Shibuya Station

A tourism and exchange facility opened by Ōdate City, hometown of the loyal dog Hachiko, in front of JR Ōdate Station. The building is modeled after the original Shibuya Station from the Taisho era where Hachiko waited for his master. In the Akita Dog exhibition room inside the facility, you can meet real Akita dogs through glass—their erect ears, curled tails, and dignified stance will captivate both grandparents and grandchildren. The exhibition corner introduces the life of Hachiko and characteristics of Akita dogs through easy-to-understand panels and photographs. Outside, the Tokyu's famous "Blue Frog" train vehicle, which returned from Tokyo's Shibuya Station, is displayed and popular as a photo spot. The souvenir corner features an array of Akita dog merchandise, making it the perfect place to start your three-generation trip.

Tips

Located right next to JR Ōdate Station—just a short walk from the station. There is a free parking lot. Admission is free. The display dogs have rest periods and days off, so if you want to be sure to see them, check the official viewing information in advance. Please observe quiet viewing in the exhibition room.
