A 26-meter-tall, 11-meter-wide waterfall on the Naso River within the grove of Kimpoku Shrine (金峰神社), designated as a National Scenic Spot. The Naso River, which gathers water from Mount Chokai, plunges down with thunderous force—a breathtaking display. Descending stone steps from the shrine grounds leads to a viewpoint where you can look up at the white curtain-like flow, enveloped in mist at remarkably close range. The union of deep green gorge and waterfall carries the sacred atmosphere befitting a site long revered as a place of Mount Chokai faith, offering both worship and waterfall viewing. You can also view the full cascade from a high terrace on the shrine side, so even grandparents hesitant about climbing stone steps can share the spectacular view without strain.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Michi-no-Eki Ogata, and just a short walk from Kimpoku Shrine's parking area. The stone steps descending toward the waterfall pool have steep sections, so use the handrails and proceed slowly. After rain, water volume increases dramatically for a more impressive sight, but the ground becomes slippery—exercise caution.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Early afternoon brings dappled sunlight through the grove, making the mist glow beautifully.
