The Final Station of the Chōkai Sanroku Line, Take a Commemorative Photo Before the Retro Station Sign

About this spot

The terminal station of the Chōkai Sanroku Line and gateway to Yashima, a castle town where the Ikoma clan's administrative base was established during the Edo period. The sight of the track abruptly ending beyond the platform is a must-see for railway enthusiasts, and the station sign is a classic spot for family photos. The station building houses a shop and tourist information counter where you can browse local sweets and railway merchandise. The waiting room, filled with people waiting for connecting trains, carries the leisurely pace of time unique to this mountain town. From here, you'll switch to a car and head to the pastures and waterfalls at the foot of Mount Chōkai. This station is like the knot connecting the railway journey with the highland drive—an essential point in your itinerary.

Tips

Traveling to Hanadachi Pasture Park or Hōtai Waterfall is best done by car from the station. Taxis are limited, so advance reservations are recommended. With a rental car, you can pick one up on the Ugo-Honjo side and meet up at Yashima. Check the connecting train time before exploring the station area.

Best time to visit

About 30 minutes. After getting off the train, take time to leisurely view the platform and station building before heading to your next destination.
