Meet Jersey Cattle at the Chōkai Highland Pasture, Rest with Rich Soft-Serve Ice Cream
About this spot
A pasture park sprawling across a highland at approximately 500 meters elevation on the foothills of Mount Chōkai. During the grazing season, Jersey cattle are released into the pastureland, where you can watch them nibble grass lazily from beyond the fence. At "Hanadachi Pasture Workshop Millzie" within the park, soft-serve ice cream and yogurt made from freshly milked Jersey cow's milk are popular—the rich yet clean-finishing flavor is a treat unique to the pasture. On the grassy plaza, children can run freely, and on clear days, Mount Chōkai's majestic form provides a postcard-perfect backdrop. After your train journey, this highland spot is where families can refresh themselves and all smiles return—a place where everyone finds joy.
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Yashima Station. Admission is free, but shop and facility hours vary seasonally, so check ahead. The highland is cooler than lowland areas, so bring a light layer for children. Don't forget to wash hands before and after touching the cattle.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. On a clear afternoon, Mount Chōkai is beautifully visible, and the timing is perfect for a soft-serve ice cream break.
