Perfect Closing: Watching the Sunset Over the Japan Sea as a Family
About this spot
A spacious swimming beach representative of Shonai's coastline, boasting a gently curving long sandy shore with the Japan Sea stretching endlessly beyond. The historic hot spring town of Yunohama lines the shore, creating an atmosphere rich in coastal travel appeal. The true highlight is at dusk, when the slowly sinking sun paints the sea and sky in shades of red—a sight renowned as among Shonai's most beautiful. The evening beach, with its quiet and warm atmosphere, differs from daytime sand play and is perfect for closing out the day. Watching the sunset with your whole family lined up on the sand becomes an unforgettable final page to your eventful Shonai seashore adventure filled with jellyfish, sea, and bridge-walking.
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Zenpoji Temple and about 10 minutes from Kamo Aquarium; parking spots are scattered around the beach area. The apparent temperature drops with the sea breeze in the evening, so bring a light jacket. With the wide sandy beach, keep a close eye on small children. Sunset times vary significantly by season, so check in advance.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 1 hour. The highlight is just before and after sunset over the Japan Sea. Arrive a bit early to take an evening beach walk.
