Tsuruoka was Japan's first city recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, valued for its rich culinary traditions including traditional local crops and Buddhist vegetarian cuisine from the Three Mountains of Dewa. The building houses dining establishments featuring the bounty of Shōnai Bay and local ingredients, a souvenir shop stocked with processed goods made from edamame, Shōnai rice, and local sake, plus a tourist information office. Tips
About 5 minutes by car from the Tsuruoka Park area, or directly from Tsuruoka Station by public bus. Located right in front of JR Tsuruoka Station, convenient if using trains to leave. Individual shops have different hours and days off, so check ahead if you have a specific destination. Some souvenirs require refrigeration, so a cooler bag is helpful.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Arriving in early evening before crowds allows relaxed dining and souvenir shopping.
