This literary memorial museum honors Shūhei Fujisawa (藤沢周平), a historical novelist from Tsuruoka known for works such as "Tasogare Seibei" and "Shigure no Kinu." It stands within Tsuruoka Park at the ruins of Tsuruoka Castle. The recreated study display features the author's favorite desk and dictionaries brought from his Tokyo home, allowing you to feel the atmosphere in which masterpieces were born. The display of handwritten manuscripts and creative materials is truly impressive. Many of his works are set in the fictional Kaisaka Domain (海坂藩), which is said to strongly reflect the landscape and climate of Shōnai and Tsuruoka. As you leave the hall and walk the castle town streets, the scenes of moats and narrow lanes seem to overlap with scenes from the stories. Grandparent generations are familiar with this author's film and drama adaptations, making this a place where three-generation conversations naturally flow.

Tips

Just a short walk from Shōnai Shrine, located in a corner of Tsuruoka Park. Admission is an affordable 320 yen per adult. The atmosphere inside calls for quiet appreciation, so a quick word to small children beforehand helps. There may be exhibition changes and closures, so confirm open days before your visit.
