A large dining and souvenir complex at the entrance to the approach to Uesugi Shrine, serving as a kind of tourism hub for the castle town of Yonezawa. The restaurant offers a wide range of menu items, from famous Yonezawa beef sukiyaki and steak to affordable rice bowls and set meals, so it's great that each of the three generations can choose according to their appetite and taste. The gift shop is lined with specialties from the Okitama region, from Yonezawa beef prepared dishes and bento boxes to local sake, Yonezawa textile goods, and Yamagata's famous sweets, making souvenir shopping after your meal a treat in itself. The Yonezawa-beef croquettes and menchi-katsu (minced meat cutlets) sold at the storefront are a classic snack-on-the-go, perfect for satisfying a small appetite on the way back from worship. Right next to the shrine, where you can take care of both dining and shopping at once, this is a reliable stop for a family trip.

Tips

About a 1-minute walk from the torii gate of Uesugi Shrine. The restaurant gets crowded around lunchtime, so entering before noon or shifting your timing slightly is recommended. It has a large parking lot, making it easy to stop by car too. For souvenirs requiring refrigeration, consider your carrying time and bring an insulated bag for peace of mind.

About 1 hour 15 minutes. To avoid crowds, an early lunch before noon is the most comfortable option.
