About this spot

A historical theme park spanning approximately 7,000 tsubo featuring the restored mansion of Saigo Yoritsugu, chief retainer of the 230,000-koku Aizu domain. Centered around the grand 38-room chief retainer's mansion, the park includes relocated and restored structures such as the former Nakahata camp headquarters (designated important cultural property of Fukushima), tea houses, and the domain's rice polishing mill. The interiors recreate period life with period figures placed in various rooms, allowing visitors to explore every corner—from the living quarters to kitchens, baths, and guest rooms—providing children with the excitement of a historical treasure hunt and grandparents with nostalgic feelings. The park also offers hands-on experiences in painting Aka-beko (red cows) and okiagari koboshi dolls (paid activities), making it an ideal spot for three-generation family memories at the start of your trip.

Tips

From Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, take the loop bus "Akabe" or "Haikara-san" heading toward Higashiyama Onsen and get off at "Aizu Samurai Residences-mae" (会津武家屋敷前). If driving, there is free parking. The grounds have gravel paths and steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended for grandparents. As you walk outdoors along the route, bring hats and drinks for summer comfort.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. The early morning, right after opening, is less crowded and allows for leisurely viewing in the morning light.
