A viewing facility operated by Yamata-kawa Sake Brewery, founded in 1790 (Kansei 2), showcasing the brewery from the Edo through Showa periods. The interior of this historic sake brewery—which has nurtured the prestigious 'Yaemon' label—can be toured free of charge. Successive brick storehouses from the Edo, Taisho, and Showa eras demonstrate how the facility evolved, embodying the essence of 'Storehouse Town Kitakata'. Exhibits of large oak barrels and sake-making tools used in production immerse visitors in the world of sake created from Iideyama's spring water and Aizu rice. The tour concludes with sake tasting at the shop, where you can sample and select your favorite—a treat for sake lovers. After ramen, a pleasant tipsy stroll adds a sophisticated touch to your adult friend trip.
Tips
About 10 minutes on foot from Makoto Shokudo. Viewing and admission are free; sake tasting is available at the shop. Designated drivers should abstain from tastings and opt for soft drinks or amazake instead. The brewery interior is cool, so bringing a light layer is comfortable. Sake bottles are heavy; consider shopping at the end of your trip or use shipping for bulk purchases.
