An art museum housing works by photographer Ueda Shoji, a native of Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture, renowned worldwide for his signature 'Ueda style' directed photography featuring the sand dunes. The concrete building, designed by architect Takamatu Shin, is architecturally composed to capture Mt. Daisen as borrowed scenery—the building itself is a masterpiece. The video exhibition room inside features one of the world's largest camera lenses projecting the inverted Mt. Daisen across an entire wall. On clear days, an inverted Mt. Daisen appears reflected in the water basin in front of the building, creating a view that captivates even those not passionate about photography.
Tips
The inverted Mt. Daisen in the water basin is best seen on calm, sunny days. Recreating Ueda-style family pose photographs is another fun way to enjoy the museum (follow the posted guidelines for interior photography). The museum has winter closure periods, so check the opening calendar in advance. About 10 minutes by car from Bierhof Gambrinus.
