Built by the Tottori domain near the end of the Edo period to defend against foreign ships, these gun battery ruins are designated a National Historic Site. The earthworks, covered in green grass, retain much of their original form, and climbing to the top offers a pleasant park with an open view and a breeze off the Sea of Japan. The surrounding area is maintained as Odaiba Park (お台場公園), which also has a plaza with playground equipment, making it a great break for children to move their bodies. Slipping in a moment to touch the town's history amid a day full of Conan makes it possible to feel the depth of Hokuei Town (北栄町). It is also within walking distance of Beika Shopping Street (米花商店街), which is a nice bonus.
Tips
The top of the earthworks is unpaved, so watch your footing after rain. There is little shade, so bring a hat and water on hot days. There is parking and a restroom on the Odaiba Park (お台場公園) side, making it easy to stop by car as well.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. In the early afternoon the green grass stands out beautifully, making it just right for an after-lunch stroll.
