An Ancient Shrine with the 'Wish Stone' Said to Grant Wishes When Touched

An ancient shrine perched on a high bluff overlooking the Tamayugawa River at the far end of the Tamatsukuri Hot Spring town, with a distinguished history recorded in the Izumo Province Chronicles (Izumoku no Kuni Fudoki). The enshrined deities are Kushiakarutama no Mikoto, the ancestral god of magatama crafting, and Ōnamochi no Mikoto and Sukunahikona no Mikoto, the guardian deities of hot springs. In a corner of the shrine grounds sits a round natural stone called the 'wish stone,' which is said to grant wishes when touched and prayed upon—a progenitor of power stones. Receive a 'fulfilling stone' from the shrine office, purify it with the sacred water, gently place it upon the wish stone to transfer your prayers, write your wishes on a wish tablet, offer one to the shrine, and keep the other along with the fulfilling stone in a protective amulet pouch. The morning visit with both of you sharing the same wish is a fitting beginning for this course.
Tips
You can receive the fulfilling stone at the shrine office. The moss-covered stone steps require sturdy, comfortable shoes. Early morning visits have fewer people, allowing you to perform the wish stone ritual in a peaceful atmosphere.
Best time to visit
Approximately 60 minutes. A visit during the crisp morning air is especially rewarding, allowing you to leisurely complete the fulfilling stone ritual through to the wish tablet offering.
