About 8 Minutes of Scenic Aerial Travel to a Volcanic Panorama

About this spot

Enjoy about 8 minutes of scenic aerial travel by lift from the eastern plain of Sanbe Mountain near the ridge of Daihira Mountain. Below, grasslands slowly drift past; behind you, the mountains of Ota and open sky. From the mountain station, a short walk along the grassland trail brings you to the observation point at Daihira Mountain, where a magnificent volcanic panorama unfolds—the great depression called Muro-no-uchi, ringed by the peaks of O-Sanbe, Me-Sanbe, and Ko-Sanbe. The charm of the lift is that you can experience the scenery of the ridge without mountaineering equipment, allowing families with small children to easily access the world high above. On clear days, you may even see the distant sea—an exhilarating experience.

Tips

Wide free parking available at the eastern plain. The mountain top is cooler than the base and windy, so bringing a light jacket is recommended. The trail from the lift station to the observation point is a grassland path, so wear comfortable walking shoes such as sneakers. Check operating conditions in advance as they're affected by weather.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Late morning when the air is clear offers the best light angle, making the peaks and Muro-no-uchi most distinct.
