A museum dedicated to tatara iron production and Japanese swords, located in Yokota, Okuizumo Town, where ancient-style tatara iron production continues to operate today. The museum houses a full-scale cross-sectional model of a tatara furnace with its underground structure reproduced, allowing visitors to learn three-dimensionally about the grand process of creating tamahagane steel from iron sand and charcoal. Exhibitions also cover the connection between the Yamata no Orochi legend and iron production, as well as displays of Japanese swords forged from tamahagane steel. On certain days, master bladesmiths demonstrate traditional sword-forging techniques, offering visitors the chance to witness the spectacular skill of steel-forging sparks up close.
