Morning Stroll Through the Peony-Filled Strolling Pond Garden: A Miniaturized Izumo Landscape on Daikon Island

About this spot

A strolling pond and stream style Japanese garden located on Daikon Island, a volcanic island floating in Lake Nakaumi. Spread across approximately 12,000 tsubo (about 4 hectares), the garden captures the landscapes of the Izumo region in miniature. You can leisurely walk winding paths around waterfalls, dry gardens, and ponds while enjoying the changing seasons. Daikon Island is renowned as a major producer of peonies and Codonopsis lanceolata (cloud peony), and the garden's "Peony Hall" is famous for displaying large, blooming peonies year-round. The garden is also celebrated for events where peonies blanket the pond surface. This world of flowers, water, and greenery is perfect for the beginning of your journey. The tea house overlooking the garden allows you to steep in the garden's beauty while enjoying morning tea.

Tips

Free parking available. Visiting shortly after opening means fewer crowds, and the morning light makes the garden most beautiful. The garden paths have gravel and stepping stones, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Admission fees may vary by season.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Early morning after opening sees fewer visitors and the garden is most beautiful in clear light.
