The Beluga's Happy Bubble Rings: A Must-See Signature Performance

About this spot

Shimane Prefectural Marine Park Aquas is one of the largest aquariums in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Among the approximately 400 species and 10,000 marine creatures on display, the biggest star is the beluga whale. The "Happy Bubble Rings"—rings of air that whoosh out of their mouths—are a signature performance that brings smiles to all who watch. Other highlights include a massive shark tank where sharks swim majestically, the adorable penguin pavilion with its waddling residents, and exhibits featuring marine life native to Shimane. The facility is located within Ishimi Kaihama Park, and you can enjoy views of the Sea of Japan from inside the aquarium, making the location itself a major attraction.

Tips

Approximately 10 minutes by car from Hamada IC on the Hamada Expressway. There is a spacious free parking lot shared with Ishimi Kaihama Park. Beluga performances are held at scheduled times, so it's recommended to check the schedule right after entering and plan your route accordingly.

Best time to visit

Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes required. The aquarium is less crowded right after opening, making it easier to secure good seating for the beluga performance.
