A hub of seafood located right next to Hamada fishing harbor, where freshly landed fish and seafood line the shelves of fish shops. Hamada is particularly famous for three types of fish: nodoguro (snow trout), horse mackerel, and flounder. Among these, nodoguro—nicknamed "toro of white fish"—is a premium fish known nationwide for its fatty, refined flavor. At the dining area inside the market, you can enjoy fresh, authentic port-town cuisine such as seafood rice bowls and grilled nodoguro with salt. The casual conversations with shop staff and the time spent with children gazing at fish laid out on ice are pleasures unique to visiting a market.
Tips
Free parking is available. The dining area can get crowded around noon, so arriving slightly off-peak makes for a smoother experience. If purchasing fresh seafood as a souvenir, bring an insulated bag for safe transport.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. Arriving slightly after the noon rush makes it easier to secure a seat at the dining area.
