Manfukuji Temple is a representative ancient Jodo sect temple of Masuda, and its main hall, which preserves the character of medieval times, is designated as an Important Cultural Property. The temple garden is said to have been designed by Sesshu and is also designated as a National Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty. Its distinctive feature is the powerful stone arrangements centered on a standing stone in the middle, said to represent Mount Sumeru, the center of the Buddhist cosmos. This creates a different atmosphere from the elegant pond garden of Ikokoji—a solemn, contemplative air flows through the space. When you settle onto the main hall's veranda and face the garden, you feel as if you've entered a ink painting world. By visiting both temples in sequence, you can fully appreciate the aesthetic sensibility of Sesshu, the painter-monk, and the impact of his legacy in Masuda—making these temples the heart of your art walk.

It's only about 5 minutes by car from Ikokoji Temple, so visiting both Sesshu gardens together is the standard route. The temple is located in a quiet residential area, so drive carefully. It's advisable to bring cash for admission fees and temple stamps.
