A Leisurely Walk Along a Serene Lake Surrounded by Pine Groves

Banryuko Lake is said to have been formed when sand blown from the Japan Sea blocked a valley, creating two connected bodies of water: the upper and lower lakes. The surrounding area is enveloped in red pine groves and is designated as a Prefectural Natural Park—a serene scenic spot. A well-maintained walking path runs along the lakeside, where you can stroll leisurely while enjoying the sight of green pines and the sparkling lake surface. After spending the afternoon using your eyes intently at the museum and gardens, a walk along the quiet lakeshore where only the sound of wind and bird calls are heard provides a pleasant cooldown. Despite being only about 15 minutes by car from central Masuda, the experience of being immersed in a deep forest offers a refreshing sense of escape from the everyday. It's the perfect rest stop before heading to the sunset over the sea.
Tips
Free parking is available by the lake. The walking path is relatively level and easy to traverse, though it may be muddy after rain, so wear comfortable shoes. There are few shops in the area, so bring drinking water with you.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. The soft light before sunset creates a beautiful contrast between the green pines and the lake's surface.
