About this spot
Moriishi Beach is a gently curving sandy beach on the Japan Sea coast in western Masuda City. It is known for its spectacular sunset, where the sun slowly sinks into an unobstructed horizon—a scene beloved by local residents as one of the region's finest sunset viewing spots. As the sun descends, the sky and sea transform moment by moment from orange to vermillion, then to deep indigo—a natural canvas perfectly suited as the finale to a day exploring human-made beauty. The course guides you from GrantWa's striking architecture through Sesshu's gardens and concludes with this greatest artwork of nature. Listen to the sound of the waves and slowly savor the lingering impressions of your journey through Iwami.
Tips
The beach is easily accessible along Route 191 with parking available. Check the sunset time in advance and aim to arrive 30 minutes beforehand. On windy days, bring a cardigan or wrap as the sea breeze can lower the perceived temperature. If walking on the sandy beach, wear shoes that can get wet.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. The moments before and after sunset are when the colors in the sky and sea transform continuously, with the sun touching the horizon as the highlight.
