Purchase an all-day free pass and depart on a lake-side local railway adventure
About this spot
The starting station of Ichinomiya Railway, adjacent to JR Izumo-shi Station. Affectionately known as "Bataden," this local private railway connects Izumo and Matsue, tracing the northern shore of Lake Shinji. Purchase a free pass at the ticket counter that allows unlimited boarding and alighting, then hop aboard the cute orange train for a lake-side railway adventure. This historic railway, which served as the setting for a film, features retro rolling stock and pastoral scenery that gradually transitions from rice fields to lakeside—the journey itself is a sightseeing experience. If you stand right behind the driver's cab, children can enjoy front-view sightseeing in the spirit of a train operator.
Tips
Free passes can be purchased at the Dentetsu Izumo-shi Station ticket counter. Trains run only 1-2 times per hour, so check the timetable of the train you want to board before purchasing your ticket for a smooth experience. IC cards are not accepted, so be sure to bring cash.
Best time to visit
Journey time: approximately 20 minutes. The 9 o'clock hour, outside of school commute rush, allows for comfortable seating and is perfect for enjoying the window scenery
