About this spot

This is the terminus of the Ichibata Electric Railway (一畑電車); step onto the platform and you are already at the entrance to Matsue's hot spring district. In front of the station is a free foot bath open to anyone, and soaking your feet, tired from a day of walking, in the warm water melts away the pleasant fatigue of your train journey. The nearby shore of Lake Shinji (宍道湖) is famous as a spot for sunsets, and the time when the lake surface turns a deep amber is the perfect way to close out your trip. You can stroll along the lakeshore, watch the trains passing by, and savor the lingering mood at leisure until it is time to head back. It is also convenient that you can easily reach central Matsue by bus.

Tips

The foot bath is free, but be sure to bring a towel. If you are aiming to catch the sunset, we recommend checking the time of sunset and heading to the lakeshore a little early. JR Matsue Station can be reached by bus from in front of the station in about 15 minutes.

Best time to visit

About 30 minutes. At dusk, Lake Shinji turns a deep amber, making it the best time of day to close out your trip.
