About this spot

Along National Route 180 heading from central Niimi to Ikura-do (井倉洞), this waterfall about 60 meters high tumbles down a rock face rising on the opposite bank of the Takahashi River (高梁川). It is said to take its name from the way it looks as though a cloth of silk has been draped over the rock, and on days with heavy water flow, the white band splits into several graceful strands. A small vermilion bridge spans the front of the falls, and at its foot stands a small shrine dedicated to Fudo Myoo, giving the place a faintly sacred atmosphere. You can park and walk right up to the falls, making it perfect for taking a deep breath and soaking up the crisp morning air and negative ions at the start of your day of cave exploration.

Tips

There is parking space along National Route 180, and the falls are just a short walk away. Traffic is light in the morning, making it an easy time to take photos. Near the falls, the spray can make the ground wet underfoot, so wear shoes with good grip.

Best time to visit

About 30 minutes. In the morning, the air is clear and dappled sunlight through the trees lights up the falls, making it refreshing.
