About this spot

Located along National Route 182 in Tessei-cho, Niimi, this roadside station stands at the gateway to Koigakubo Marsh (鯉が窪湿原), sometimes called the Oze of the West. The shop is lined with mountain-village bounty, including fresh vegetables from local farms, grapes that are a Niimi specialty, processed Chiya beef (千屋牛) products, and handmade side dishes and sweets. There is also a diner serving the local specialty soba noodles, perfect for satisfying a small appetite on the way home. It is a fitting time to calm the excitement of your cave tour while choosing souvenirs for family or yourself. If you have time and energy to spare, we also recommend strolling around the entrance of the neighboring Koigakubo Marsh to look for wild mountain plants.

Tips

This roadside station has a spacious, easy-to-use parking lot. Popular vegetables and side dishes can sell out by evening. Closing time is on the early side, so head there with plenty of time to spare when stopping by on your way home.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. Since this facility closes early, arriving early in the evening is reassuring.
