A Major Brewery Representative of Saijo Offering Tours and Sake Tasting
About this spot
Kamottsuru Sake Brewery is one of Saijo's representative major breweries. The viewing room and direct sales shop, created by renovating a former premium sake brewery, is free to enter and allows you to carefully view videos introducing the sake-making process and displays of old sake-making tools. At the much-awaited sake tasting corner, you can compare varieties from standard honjozo (traditional sake) to their signature daiginjo (premium sake). The daiginjo, adorned with dancing gold leaf shaped like cherry blossoms, is an elegant offering favored at formal banquets both domestically and internationally. The glimmering gold leaf in the glass will make your heart leap. The first taste, experienced after touching the craftsmanship and history of the brewers, becomes the "standard" by which to measure your afternoon sake-tasting tour—make sure to remember this baseline flavor here.
Tips
The viewing room and direct sales shop do not require reservations for individual visitors and are easy to stop by casually. In addition to complimentary tasting, paid tastings of premium sake start from several hundred yen. If you plan to taste sake, driving is strictly forbidden; explore on foot from JR Saijo Station. Sake you like can be purchased on the spot.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. The late morning hours are relatively quiet, allowing you to enjoy the sake tasting counter at a leisurely pace
