Step out onto the deck and you'll see the Great Torii (大鳥居) of Itsukushima Shrine rising from the sea, accompanied by the sea breeze; depending on the ferry, you may even take a route that brings you closer to the iconic gate. Two ferry companies operate here, and both take approximately 10 minutes. The standard approach is to park your car in a paid parking lot near Miyajima-guchi and then take the ferry to the island. Expect crowding on holidays from late morning onward, so an early morning departure is more comfortable. On the outbound journey, standing on the right side of the deck in the direction of travel will give you the best views of the Great Torii.
