Morning Valley Walk with a Vermillion Momiji Bridge and Clear Stream
About this spot
Located about 20 minutes on foot from Miyajima Pier, this natural park spreads along the Momiji Valley Stream (紅葉谷川) at the base of the Misen Primeval Forest. The park is home to approximately 700 Japanese maples and maple trees, offering stunning autumn foliage and beautiful fresh green foliage in spring and summer. The vermillion Momiji Bridge, the babbling stream, and moss-covered rocks create a landscape reminiscent of a traditional Japanese garden. A morning walk through the crisp air feels incredibly refreshing. You may encounter wild deer strolling casually through the park. The back of the park leads to the entrance of the Momiji Valley Station (紅葉谷駅) of the Miyajima Ropeway, making it the perfect prologue to your mountain adventure.
Tips
From Miyajima Pier, walk through the Omotesando shopping street for approximately 20 minutes to reach the park. While you may encounter wild deer, they will approach if they see food, so keep your bags securely closed. The path to the Ropeway Momiji Valley Station involves uphill sections, so wear comfortable walking shoes. It's also helpful to check on the availability of the free shuttle bus service to the station.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. The slanting morning light filters through the valley, making the fresh green and autumn foliage shimmer at their most beautiful.
