Main Aerial Walk: Overlooking the Primeval Forest and Seto Inland Sea
About this spot
This is a rare aerial transport system in Japan that combines two different types of ropeways: a reversible cable system from Momiji Valley Station (紅葉谷駅) to Kayatani Station (榧谷駅), and a crossing cable system from Kayatani Station to Shishiiwa Station (獅子岩駅). As the gondola climbs higher, the deep green of the Misen Primeval Forest (天然記念物・弥山原始林)—a natural monument—spreads beneath you, and turning around reveals the blue Seto Inland Sea with scattered islands in full view. This approximately 15-minute aerial journey is a continuous feast of spectacular scenery. The moment when the view outside the window transitions from the primeval forest's green to the beautiful blue of the scattered islands is one of the highlights of this course. Since the scenery changes depending on the direction of travel, both on the way up and down, sitting in different seats on the round trip offers a different experience.
Tips
During peak seasons, waiting times may occur; check the status of ticket distribution at the station. The ropeway may be closed due to strong winds, so check the official website for operational information before heading out. Be sure to confirm the time of the last descending cable car when boarding in the ascending direction.
Best time to visit
Approximately 30 minutes (including transfer time). Late morning offers favorable lighting conditions that make the Seto Inland Sea appear vibrantly blue.
