About this spot
A small port in Takahara City that serves as the gateway to Okuji Island. Easily accessible—just a short walk from JR Kure Line's Tadanoumi Station—the waiting area has a ticket booth and shops. What you must do here is stock up on rabbit food. Since the island has no rabbit food for sale, it's a golden rule of island trips to buy pellets at the port shop before departure. Merchandise featuring ferries and rabbits also lines the shelves, building excitement before you leave. The ferry ride is about 15 minutes. Step out onto the deck and the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea and the landscape woven by large and small islands spread before you, making the ferry journey itself the first source of enjoyment.
Tips
There is free parking around the port, but it may fill up by mid-morning on holidays and weekends. A 7-minute walk from JR Tadanoumi Station, so train travel is also convenient. Since rabbit food cannot be bought on the island, be sure to purchase it at the shop before boarding.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes required. On consecutive holidays and weekends, queues form for boarding, so arriving 30 minutes before departure is reassuring.
