Okuji Island, known as a rabbit paradise, has another face: it was once erased from maps as a base for poison gas production. Through exhibits of manufacturing equipment, protective gear, and records of people who worked on the island, the museum conveys the island's history and the value of peace to the present day. Though compact, the museum's exhibits are dense and offer plenty of learning for adults. Visiting it together with the ruins of the generator facility and gun emplacements remaining on the island will deepen your understanding further. Between enjoyable interactions, this important spot enriches your journey by allowing families to reflect together on the island's history.
Tips
Some exhibits in the museum are not permitted to be photographed. Since the content deals with wartime history, briefly explaining it to children beforehand will help them view the exhibits calmly. It's reassuring to prepare cash for the admission fee.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes required. Before and after noon, you can view exhibits relatively peacefully at a leisurely pace.
