A traditional shopping street extending from Setoda Port to the gate of Koushinji Temple. This thoroughfare preserves the atmosphere of a port town that once thrived on salt production and maritime commerce. Along the street, long-established butcher shops, traditional confectioners, and dried goods stores line the way. The signature item is freshly fried croquettes from the butcher shop—eating them while walking is the classic way to enjoy this district. This was also the hometown where painter Ikuo Hirayama spent his boyhood, and as you stroll past old merchant houses and renovated cafés and inns scattered throughout, you'll sense the unhurried rhythm of island life. A perfect introduction to your island stroll, just a 10-minute walk from Setoda Port to Koushinji Temple.

Just a short walk from Setoda Port. Since some shops may not be open early in the morning, check operating hours beforehand if you have your heart set on croquettes or other items. If driving, park at the parking lots around Setoda Port and explore on foot—it's convenient.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Early morning sees fewer crowds, and croquettes are easier to buy without a wait.
