A Leisurely Shoreline Stroll Together Along White Sandy Beaches Surrounded by Island Silhouettes
About this spot
A beach on the western coast of Ikuchijima (生口島) where white sand stretches for a considerable distance, renowned—as its name suggests—for its beautiful sunsets. The view of the sun tilting toward the horizon beyond the silhouettes of islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea is one of the most romantic vistas in the Shimanami Kaido area. While summer brings swimmers and crowds, other seasons see fewer visitors, making it ideal for a leisurely romantic shoreline walk. Located along the Shimanami Kaido cycling route, it's also a beloved rest spot for cyclists. Grassy areas and benches are available, so sit down and watch the colors of sea and sky gradually shift—a perfect moment to share together.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from Setoda town, with parking available. The sea breeze can be surprisingly cool, so a light cardigan or jacket is recommended. If walking on the sand, wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Summer brings crowds of swimmers, so if you prefer a more peaceful experience, visit late in the afternoon.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. As evening approaches, the light softens, making it most pleasant for a walk.
