Noi Dam (温井ダム)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An arch-style concrete dam that blocks the Takiyama River, its 156-meter height makes it one of Japan's tallest arch dams. The reservoir is named Ryūhime Lake after a local dragon legend, and its surface mirrors the deep mountains surrounding it. An observation elevator descends through the dam body to a park below, offering a breathtaking experience—gazing up at the towering arch from directly beneath it—all free of charge. After traversing gorges, grasslands, and rice terraces throughout the day, take time to savor where human engineering meets the natural landscape.

Tips

The observation elevator has limited operating hours—check the status upon arrival. The dam's top is windy; be careful your hat doesn't blow away.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour. Just before sunset, the western light illuminates the dam and Ryūhime Lake, creating a fitting climax to your day's journey.
