Enjoy the Lake with Its Striking Vermillion Bridge by Sightseeing Cruise and Lakeside Stroll

About this spot

A man-made lake formed by damming the Taisho River, nestling long and narrow among mountains. The lake surface, surrounded by steep cliffs and deep green vegetation, has an almost mystical quality, living up to its name—resembling a dragon lying horizontally. A vermillion-painted bridge spans the lake, its reflection striking against the green mountainsides and water surface—one of Taisho Gorge's representative landscapes. Sightseeing boats depart from the lakeside dock, and on approximately 40 minutes of cruising, you can enjoy spectacular gorge views from the water that you could never reach on foot. After disembarking, a leisurely stroll across the vermillion bridge along the lakeside path offers a rest. A perfect finale for your day with peaceful, flowing time.

Tips

Sightseeing boats depart from the lakeside dock with approximately 40 minutes of cruising time. Departure times and seasonal closures vary, so check locally or official guides. The lakeside also features a walking path crossing the vermillion bridge—perfect for a stroll while waiting for your boat. Parking is available near the dock.
