Take a Roughly Three-Minute Aerial Walk to the Mountain Summit, with the Kintai Bridge and Castle Town Spread Below
About this spot
This ropeway connects the base station near Yoshika Park to the mountain summit station in approximately three minutes and is an essential means of reaching Iwakuni Castle. As the gondola ascends, the five-arch Kintai Bridge and the grid-pattern castle town spread below appear smaller and smaller, like viewing a miniature garden—the meandering Nishiki River completing the scene. On clear days, you can even see islands of the Seto Inland Sea in the distance. The roughly three-minute aerial walk with its ever-changing views is the highlight of this entire course. From the mountaintop station, a well-maintained verdant forest path guides you to Iwakuni Castle's keep.
Tips
The ropeway runs at regular intervals, so use your wait time to explore Yoshika Park. Be aware that there may be temporary closures for maintenance—it's wise to check the operational status beforehand. The mountain summit is breezier than the base, so bringing a light jacket is recommended for comfort.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 30 minutes (actual ride time is about 3 minutes each way). Mid-afternoon with clear air offers the sharpest views of the castle town and Kintai Bridge.
