This highway rest station stands at the entrance to Nagato Gorge along National Route 9. The shop displays fresh morning vegetables from the Ato region and an array of Tokusa apple products grown in the high-altitude area with its large temperature swings. Fresh-baked bread and a restaurant make it perfect for picking up breakfast or snacks. Just behind the station is the starting point of the Nagato Gorge walking trail, so you can gather maps and information about highlights before heading into the gorge—reassuring and convenient. The nearby JR Yamaguchi Line Nagato Gorge Station is also close by, and if timing allows, the train whistle may echo through the mountains. A wonderful hub to kick off your drive.
Tips
The parking lot is spacious and free. It's reassuring to use the restroom and prepare drinks before walking the trail. Apple sales and fresh bread have the best selection in the morning.
