This gorge was carved by the Abugi River cutting deeply through the highlands and is designated as a national scenic spot. A well-maintained walking trail extends about 5.1 km from the entrance behind the station to Ryugū Pool, with the scenery constantly changing as you walk past emerald-hued pools, towering rock formations, and white rapids washing over stones. The trail is mostly flat and easy to walk, making it ideal for families to hike to a scenic pool and return. The landscape shifts with each season—new green, deep green, and crimson autumn leaves—and the trail echoing only with the babbling brook and bird calls is truly a natural cooling oasis.
Tips
The trail is about 5.1 km one-way, so for families, a realistic option is to walk 1-2 km and turn back. There are no shops or vending machines in long stretches, so bring water. Wear slip-resistant shoes, and keep a close eye on children near the stream.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours (for a round-trip hike). The air is clearest in the morning, and dappled sunlight filtering onto the pools brings out the most beautiful water colors.
