Famous Konnyaku Dishes Nourished by Clear Streams and Mountain Souvenirs

About this spot

A roadside station located along National Route 187 at the gateway to Nishiki Town. The specialty is handmade konnyaku prepared with water from the clear stream village of Nishiki. Dishes like konnyaku sashimi and dengaku (grilled konnyaku with miso paste) highlight the springy texture, and the restaurant offers them fresh to enjoy, while the shop displays fresh konnyaku and local agricultural products and mountain delicacies. Given this location in the upper reaches of the Nishiki River, both rice and vegetables pride themselves on their delicious water. After working up an appetite during your morning Jiji Gorge trek, have lunch here with local flavors and prepare yourself for the afternoon Tokotoko Train. It's also a reliable rest stop where you can pull over during the gorge drive.

Tips

The parking lot is spacious and easy to navigate. For konnyaku souvenirs, having an insulated bag ensures peace of mind when taking them home. Since you'll be moving to Nishiki Town Station after lunch, time your stay by calculating backward from the Tokotoko Train's departure time.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. The restaurant tends to get crowded around noon, so arriving a bit earlier ensures smoother service.
