A granite lighthouse standing at Yumesaki on the western tip of Tsuno Island. Designed by Richard Henry Brinton, a British engineer known as "the father of Japanese lighthouses," the unpainted exterior showcasing the natural look of stone beautifully reflects the blue sky and sea. Known as Japan's first lighthouse to be designated a National Treasure, a 360-degree grand panorama of the Sea of Japan and the island's greenery awaits at the observation deck after climbing 105 spiral steps. The adjacent Yumesaki Nami Park with its grassy expanse and coastal plants is perfect for leisurely strolling, along with the lighthouse museum. The contrast of white waves and the stone lighthouse makes a stunning backdrop for your memorial photos.

Tips

Viewing donations are 300 yen for middle school students and above. The spiral stairs are steep with narrow steps, so wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. The observation deck is windy—secure hats and small items. Use the parking lot near the lighthouse; shops and eating establishments are scattered nearby.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. During daytime when the sun is high, the sea's transparency is most striking, and the blue gradation viewed from the observation deck is most vivid.
