Quietly Learn the History of Battleship Mutsu Resting off Suo-Oshima

About this spot

A memorial hall preserving the memory of battleship Mutsu (陸奥), which sank in a mysterious explosion at the Hashira anchorage off Suo-Oshima. Numerous ship components and personal belongings of crew members retrieved from the seabed are on display, and large original propellers and anchors stand in the outdoor area. Built on a cape overlooking the calm Seto Inland Sea, walking through the exhibits brings the weight of history sleeping beneath this tranquil sea into sharp focus. This place also provides an opportunity for parents and children to discuss peace together, and being just next to Nagisa Aquarium makes a convenient pairing visit.

Tips

It's just a short walk from the parking lot shared with Nagisa Aquarium. Since the exhibits are best viewed quietly, prepare children beforehand by saying, 'We're learning about a big ship that sank in the sea.' Check closing times in advance, as they close relatively early.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour. In the soft evening light, the view of the Seto Inland Sea from the cape deepens the resonance of what you've seen.
