Morning Sanuki Udon Enjoyed at a Restaurant with Ocean Views Beyond the Breakwater

About this spot

A traditional Sanuki udon restaurant with noren curtains hung along National Route 11 in the southwestern part of Kanonji City, near the Kagawa-Ehime prefectural border. Just beyond the shop, the calm waters of the Hiuchinade Strait stretch out, offering a location where you can enjoy freshly made udon while gazing at the water glistening in the morning light - the greatest treat of all. Orders are taken in a casual self-service style: pour hot broth over freshly boiled noodles, then top with green onions and tempura according to your preference. The noodles have a firm texture and the broth, enriched with iriko (dried anchovies), has a gentle, savory flavor - a perfect Sanuki breakfast. Joining local regulars with your bowl in hand lets you feel immersed in Kagawa's everyday culture from the very start of your journey.

Tips

As this popular shop often has lines before noon, arriving early in the morning is your best bet. Since it's self-service, it's helpful to have small change ready for smooth payment. Park in the spaces around the restaurant. Since seating is limited, please share and take turns during busy times.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Early morning hours are less crowded, and the sea sparkles beautifully in the morning sunlight.
