Gaze up at a world-class bridge from the grassland plaza at the bridge's base

About this spot

A waterfront park developed at Banno-su in Sakaide City to commemorate the opening of the Seto Bridge, offering an excellent vantage point from which to look up at close range at one of the world's longest railroad-and-highway combined bridges from the bridge's base. The park features spacious lawns and fountains, as well as the Seto Bridge Memorial Hall (free admission), which introduces the history and engineering of the bridge construction project. Any transportation enthusiast will feel their heart racing at the story of the civil engineering technology that supports this colossal structure. Walking along the seaside promenade, you can even hear the rumble of trains crossing the bridge alongside the ocean breeze—a sense of exhilaration fitting for the start of your day.

Tips

Parking is free and abundant. The grounds are extensive, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Reviewing the bridge's structure at the Memorial Hall before heading to the tower or Yohima will enhance the emotional impact of the views that follow.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour. In the morning, few people are around, and you can have the bridge and sea all to yourself amid crisp, clean air.
