One of the largest science museums in western Japan, identifiable by its striking architecture with boldly combined cones and spheres. The main attraction is its enormous planetarium with a 30-meter dome. Acclaimed as one of the world's largest, the starry sky spread across the screen and powerful full-dome imagery are breathtaking no matter how many times you see them. The permanent exhibits are arranged in three zones: the Natural Hall, the Science and Technology Hall, and the Industry Hall. Life-sized moving dinosaur robots and interactive displays where you can use your body to understand scientific principles are hugely popular with children. The Industry Hall also features information about the Besshi Copper Mine as one of Ehime's industries, making it perfect for preparing for the day's industrial heritage exploration.
Tips
Free parking available. Since the planetarium has set screening times, it's recommended to confirm the day's schedule upon arrival and reserve seats for the showing you wish to watch. Weekends attract families, so arriving just after opening is most comfortable.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 2 hours. The exhibits are less crowded right after opening, making it easy to combine with an early morning planetarium showing.
