A revered ancient shrine long respected as the guardian deity of the Chikugo region, its impressive shrine buildings rank among Kyushu's finest examples of shrine architecture and are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. What truly captivates visitors, however, is the view from the shrine grounds. Stretching before you is the Chikugo Plain with the Chikugo River flowing majestically below, and on clear days, the distant mountain ranges come into view—a grand panorama that deserves to be called "Kurume's finest vista." The view that unfolds before you after climbing the stone steps of the approach is a perfect highlight to your day spent savoring ramen and exploring flower gardens.

Tips

Cars can drive partway up the mountain to a parking lot, but the road has many curves, so drive carefully. From the parking area, stone steps lead to the shrine buildings, so comfortable footwear is recommended. For those who find the stairs challenging, consider using the slope car available near the shrine grounds. Views are clearer on days with crisp air, allowing you to see farther into the distance.
